Greetings LGE Wildcat Families:
I am Sparkle T. Smith, your proud principal at Locust Grove Elementary. It is truly an honor and privilege to serve in my third year as the proud principal of LGE. This year, I will continue to work hard to provide a safe and positive learning environment that is conducive to learning for all students. Our teachers and staff strive to provide a rigorous, standards-based curriculum focused on students and their individual needs. We believe in educating the whole child focusing on academic, social, and emotional growth. Our teachers will grow all our students by:
★ Implementing different instructional strategies to accommodate the diverse learning needs of all students
★ Providing students with a highly effective learning environment where they will engage in challenging and rewarding instructional activities
★ Encouraging students to accept responsibility for their own learning
★ Creating learning environments where students are active participants as individuals and as members of collaborative groups
Locust Grove Elementary has a staff of highly qualified teachers who work diligently to fulfill our vision which is to ensure a high-quality, world-class education for every student. We will work together to ensure students receive challenging, interesting,and engaging work. By providing differentiated learning opportunities through researched based curriculum, technology, and practices, our students will be engaged and willing to persist with their learning so that they meet and exceed standards. I want our students to have an elementary school experience!
It has been my privilege to have worked at the elementary, middle and high school levels for the past 25 years in both instructional and administrative positions. Prior to being named as the Proud Principal of Locust Grove Elementary School, I served as the Assistant Principal for seven years at Ola Middle School and Stephenson High School in the DeKalb County School District. I have certifications in Mathematics (6-12) and Educational Leadership. I grew up in Decatur, Georgia and have attended and gained degrees from the University of Georgia (BS), University of Southern Mississippi (MEd), and Lincoln Memorial University (EdS in Curriculum & Educational Administration). My teaching experience is diverse; I have taught all Mathematics courses at the middle and high school levels.
I am truly blessed to be a part of such an amazing school and Locust Grove community. We encourage the support and involvement of families, business partners, and community members. We strive to work together to meet the unique needs of every student in an inclusive setting. We believe that by working together, we are all able to achieve more! I am looking forward to great things yet to come!
