    Parent and Family Engagement

    • Parent and family engagement, according to Locust Grove Elementary, entails parents' regular, two-way, and meaningful involvement in their children's academic progress and other school-related activities, including making sure Parents are essential in supporting their children's education. Active parental involvement in their child's education is encouraged at school.   • School Plan for Shared Student Achievement What is it?

    • This plan outlines the ways in which Locust Grove Elementary will enhance parent involvement in order to promote student learning. In order to create an equal partnership for the shared objective of raising student achievement, Locust Grove Elementary values the contributions and involvement of parents. This plan outlines the various ways that Locust Grove Elementary will encourage family involvement and the ways in which parents can assist and take part in events and activities that will enhance students' learning both at home and at school. How is it developed? Parents are free to provide feedback on the plan at any time to Locust Grove Elementary School. The strategy for the following year will be updated based on all parent input. Throughout the year, parents can examine and leave feedback on it on our school's website. In order to gather feedback from parents regarding the plans and allocation of finances for parent engagement. In order to update the plan for the next school year, parents can also provide feedback during our School Council and Family Input sessions. We will host another Family Input meeting during the annual review in the spring, where parents can express their opinions regarding the School Wide Plan. Who is it for? We invite and encourage all kids and their families to take full advantage of the possibilities outlined in this plan. Parents of migrant children, parents with disabilities, and parents with low English proficiency will all have full participation opportunities at Locust Grove Elementary. Where is it available? All parents and families will get the plan at the start of the year when it has been approved. A copy of the plan is also available to parents on the LGE website, in the front office, and in the Family Resource Center.

  • FAMILY RESOURCE CENTER ROOM #201
    • Come check out books, resources, and other educational activities for your child to use at home by stopping by the Family Resource Center. Parents can browse educational resources and the Parent Portal on computers. Thanks to our community partners, a limited quantity of FREE school supplies are offered.
  • LOCUST GROVE ELEMENTARY BUILIDING PARENT CAPACITY!  Ensure that the school website and the monthly email for all parents contain information about school and parent programs, meetings, and other activities in both Spanish and English. With the assistance of parents, using parent feedback each month provide staff training on parent and family engagement strategies and effective ways for staff to interact and form partnerships with parents. Collaborate with Early Literacy and Head Start programs to offer school information on parent-engagement activities that will enhance the school transition and assist parents and their children to get ready for kindergarten. Educate parents about the state's academic requirements and exams, how to keep track of their child's progress, and how to collaborate with teachers by posting information in both Spanish and English on the school's blog and newsletter. Use fliers, social media, and phone calls to regularly inform all families and the community about school-wide events and activities. Collaborate with our parents to provide pertinent trainings and useful presentations that will inform our staff about the value of parent involvement. Offer parents the resources they need at conferences, meetings, and activities to ensure that they can work alongside with their kids to raise their academic performance.

What is Title 1?

Locust Grove Elementary is identified as a Title 1 School as part of Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). Title 1 is designed to support State and local school reform efforts tied to challenging State academic standards to reinforce and enhance efforts to improve teaching and learning for students. Title 1 program must be based on effective means of improving student achievement and include strategies to support family engagement. All Title 1 schools must jointly develop with all parents a written Parent and Family Engagement Plan

*LGE will conduct an annual Title I parent meeting on October 24, 2024 to inform parents of the requirements of Title I and the school’s participation as well as the parents’ rights under Title I.

2024-2025 LGE Goals for Student Achievement

Goal #1: Increase the percentage of 3rd grade students reading on or above grade level from 62% to 72% as measured by GMAS.

Goal #2: Increase the percentage of 1st grade students reading on or above grade level from 33% to 43% as measured by Amira.

Goal #3: Increase the content mastery score for students with disabilities from 5% to 11% to meet the closing gaps subgroup target as measured by reading on or above grade level measured by Amira and GMAS ELA Content

We will get there by: Increasing targeted foundational skills in Science, Social Studies, Math, and writing Increasing standards-based classrooms Implementing a continuous process of analyzing performance data and providing researched and standard-based practices across all content areas Promoting open lines of communication between LGE and our families and to strive to meet the changing needs of all families in support of their children’s academic success Hosting family-friendly workshops throughout the year Locust Grove Elementary and our families will create a school compact for student success as part of this strategy. Together, parents, educators, and students create this agreement, which outlines how they will work together to ensure that every student meets grade-level expectations. The compact is a living document that will be examined and revised as necessary during the year in response to input from teachers, parents, and students at our Parent Conferences and Parent Team/School Council meetings. In addition to being sent home and displayed on the school website, the compact is also kept in the classroom and distributed to parents during parent-teacher conferences. If parents require an additional copy, copies are always available at the Family Resource Center.

*LGE llevará a cabo una reunión anual de padres de Título I el 24 de octubre de 2024 para informar a los padres sobre los requisitos del Título I y la participación de la escuela, así como los derechos de los padres según el Título I.

Metas LGE 2024-2025 para el rendimiento estudiantil

Organiza talleres para familias durante todo el año. La Primaria Locust Grove y nuestras familias crearán un pacto escolar para el éxito de los estudiantes como parte de esta estrategia. Juntos, padres, educadores y estudiantes crean este acuerdo, que describe cómo trabajarán juntos para garantizar que cada estudiante cumpla con las expectativas de su nivel de grado. El pacto es un documento vivo que será examinado y revisado según sea necesario durante el año en respuesta a los aportes de maestros, padres y estudiantes en nuestras conferencias de padres y reuniones del equipo de padres/consejo escolar.
